The Individual Education Plan
Once testing and evaluation are completed, CLC develops an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student. The overall goal of the plan is to zero in on the weaknesses that hold the student back and to build those weaknesses into strengths. We accomplish this growth through diagnostic prescriptive teaching, using techniques and nationally endorsed materials that approach a topic through multiple senses and that encourage the student to participate fully in the learning process. The most important element in this entire program - and a key to the CLC approach - is the individually assigned teacher. Using a combination of one-on-one tutoring, computer-aided instruction, and professionally designed materials, teacher and student work together in private, one- to two-hour sessions. Work assigned between the sessions helps the student use and reinforce the newly acquired study skills, and regular re-testing aids the instructor, the student's teachers, and CLC staff in charting his/her progress. These components all work together to increase the student's self-confidence, and that, in turn, opens the student to the learning process. That ability is also fostered by the use of creative, supplemental, materials and by a variety of reward incentives. Finally, parents are a vital component of the IEP. Teachers keep in regular contact with the student's parents or guardians, and our office sends each of them a Monthly Progress Review (MPR) so they can precisely chart their child's advances. In addition, parents are welcome to meet with the Director of CLC at any time. To learn more about IEPs and what CLC can do for your student, please CONTACT US.
